Monterey Food Distribution Program has started as the pandemic continues to affect individuals and families throughout Monterey County, particularly those who are unable to access government relief and other forms of support. In California, 10% of the workforce is undocumented and is unable to access any unemployment insurance benefits. We advocate for a weekly partial income replacement for undocumented workers who in the other times, pay taxes. The recent introduction of a fund for undocumented workers from Governor Newsom, while very welcome, did not go far enough to support all those people in need.
We have recently begun a Monterey Food Distribution Program to address the needs of some of our most vulnerable clients during this time of heightened financial concerns. Food packages consist of staples such as rice, tortillas and canned goods. We were fortunate enough to be able to supplement our first round of food distribution with gift cards to WalMart which were generously donated by HealthNet LLC via the California Partnership to end Domestic violence.
Please consider making a donation to YWCA-MC today to support our food distribution efforts. Your support will enable us to continue supporting the basic needs of clients and their children who cannot access other resources during this time.
