MC Gives! starts today

Categories: News

MC Gives! starts today November 12th and continues through December 31st. Please consider donating!

What is MC Gives? Over ten years ago, the Weekly decided to leverage resources to create MC Gives to promote local philanthropy.  Today Monterey County Gives! is a Special Project of Monterey County Weekly in partnership with Community Foundation for Monterey County, which not only enables you to donate in traditional ways or even donate via your IRA retirement fund, but a matching fund established to maximize donations and encourage participation. Collaboration,  partnership and synergy are fundamental to MCGIVES!

MC Gives! starts today and gives us the opportunity to fund our important work. YWCA-MC’s mission is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.  The funds we raise during MC Gives! go directly to helping victims of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking.

YWCA-MC is the number one resource in Monterey County that helps women and families escape violence.  Our 24-hour crisis line and fully staffed Safehouses provide immeasurable assistance to victims during the worst time in their lives, when reaching out for help is a life or death decision.  But we don’t stop there, we continue helping by providing free legal resources, free mental health services, free housing assistance and many more continued services, all provided free to victims.  In order to pay for these services, we must fundraise and MC Gives! is the time to ask for your participation.

One of the clients recently supported by YWCA Monterey County is J, a single mother of four children. J and her family had been living in an abusive household for many years. She came across the YWCA in her search for resources for herself and her children. As J began her journey with the YWCA, she was enrolled in the Housing First Program and started working with her case manager to find a safe, permanent living situation. With the help of the Housing First Program, J’s family was able to receive rental assistance as well as new beds and other furniture items that completed their new home. After experiencing years of abuse, J and her children can finally live in a home free from violence.
