Week Without Violence is part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls with YWCAs across the country and around the world. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence. Join us from October 14 to 18 as we hold events, share information and stories, advocate, and more with a common goal in mind: together, we can end gender-based violence.

An invitation only event, Breakfast of Champions will bring together donors, partners and founders to focus on Domestic Violence Awareness Month and reflect on some of the important activities YWCA-MC undertakes to reduce and prevent violence as part of our Week Without Violence. Then we will proudly introdcue our new CEO to the community.
On October 18 from 9:00 – 10:30 YWCA-MC held our Breakfast of Champions, the kick-off event in our Hearts and Minds 12 month series of events. Thanks to our Lead Sponsor, Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas and our Advocate Sponsor, Natividad we packed the room at Community Foundation for Monterey County (shout out for the use of the conference room!). With donors, sponsors, funders and many of our wonderful community partners in attendance, we enjoyed a nice breakfast spread and introductory remarks from our Board Chair, Judy Tschirgi. Our main event was the introduction of our new CEO, Christine Duncan, who emphasized our commitment to cooperation with all the many players in Monterey County who work to improve the lives of vulnerable residents. We finished up with Taryn Keane, Community Resource Supervisor, who spoke on the many activities we undertook as part of a Week Without Violence.
Thanks to staff for a superb job in organizing this event.
Every Wednesday from 7p-8p at our Salinas location, the YWCA-MC Volunteers will hold a series of Self Esteem Workshops focused on building self esteem, confidence and community. To register for these YWCA-MC self esteem workshops, click here.
