Volunteer Coordinator

ROLE: The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers and oversight of the YWCAMC Resource Center. This position reports to the Deputy Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteer Management

  • Develops best practices and strategies for volunteer programs, recruitment, and relationship building in collaboration with the Executive Director;
  • Provides director, coordination, and consultation for all volunteer functions within the YWCAMC to help strengthen programs;
  • Develops, promotes, and maintains a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization;
  • Ensures there are adequate numbers of volunteers scheduled for activities and outreach/fundraising events;
  • Recruits, interviews, orients, and places applicants for volunteer work and conducts or coordinates their training, in coordination with Department Directors;
  • Conducts background and reference checks of volunteers;
  • Supervises and organizes volunteers and volunteer projects;
  • Develops volunteer communications and volunteer benefits;
  • Works with colleges, schools, and agencies who are sending students and clients to volunteer for internships, community service, or class credit;
  • Actively seeks out volunteer recruitment opportunities such as meeting colleges, prospective volunteers, businesses, attending job fairs and speaking engagements to market and recruit for volunteers;
  • Creates outreach strategies to ensure participation of people of color as volunteers;
  • Coordinate and schedule the 40-hour domestic violence advocate training a minimum of three times per year;
  • Follow up with volunteers to evaluate volunteer programs and make improvements;
  • Evaluates effectiveness of volunteer programs, volunteers’ experiences and suggests improvements based on findings;
  • Coordinates, attends, and oversees community engagement events;

Collaboration

  • Communicates with YWCAMC staff members to determine volunteer needs:
  • Maintains notices of volunteer opportunities on volunteer recruitment sites and the YWCA website;
  • Consults with Department staff and observes volunteers to assure participation is appropriate and to evaluate performance;

Fund Development

  • Recruits volunteers and organizations to conduct in-kind donation drives and encourages donations of in-kind items;
  • Coordinates donations of goods to support programming needs in collaboration with Department Directors and oversees in-kind distribution;
  • Maintains in-kind donation lists accepted by YWCAMC Resource Center;
  • Oversees all donations accepted at the YWCAMC Resource Center and volunteers assigned there;
  • Reports to YWCAMC Board of Director’s Development Committee on upcoming events planned and volunteer opportunity assignments;

Information Systems Management

  • Maintains records of volunteers and tracks volunteer hours accurately and in a timely manner within the Track-It software;
  • Maintains accurate records and provides timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation and number of clients served;
  • Maintains donor records in Telosa software;
  • Maintains all donor and agency contacts in Vertical Response and sends all email and event correspondence through that system;
  • Updates website with events, Resource Center workshops, and volunteer opportunities;

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers strongly recommended.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a social services or related area;
  • Completion of 40-hour domestic violence training program (agency will provide training);
  • Maintain confidentiality policies related to client information;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing;
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including some weekend and evening hours;
  • Ability to work with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Experience maintaining personal/professional boundaries;
  • Valid California driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation;
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • During working hours, employee may sit or stand for long periods;
  • Lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor to waist level and carry for brief periods;
  • Bend and stoop while filing or sorting through donations;
  • Twist and reach while working at safe house location;
  • Must pass a TB clearance and background ID check.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $18.00 to $21.00 /hour
