Dear YWCA Monterey County Friends:

Updates about Service Provision Under Shelter-in-Place

In light of the increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Monterey County, we have not been able to resume delivering in-person services from our main office in Salinas. We value the health and safety of our staff and clients alike and will continue to ensure a safe workplace informed by science and public health guidelines. This involves remote work for many staff, stringent office sanitization protocols, and flexibility in the midst of a rapidly changing environment. You can find updates about each of our programs below:

  • Shelter Services will remain open for new clients and we continue to practice all safe guidelines as issued by the CDC.  When we do not have capacity to take on new clients, we will work to ensure suitable referrals where possible.
  • Human Trafficking clients can be referred to the HT department as usual and we will offer appropriate responses remotely through case management.
  • Transitional Housing continues to take new referrals and our Case Manager will work remotely with each client.
  • 24/7 Crisis Line continues to operate as usual. Please call +1-831-372-6300 or +1-831-757-1001 for help.
  • Therapy continues to be offered via our online platform or by phone.
  • Legal Advocacy is providing services via phone and scheduling times for clients to pick up and drop off legal paperwork. All court hearings are being held by Zoom and program staff are able to provide virtual accompaniment.
  • Outreach and Prevention is communicating with different school partners to generate strategies for delivering prevention services should local districts opt to proceed with virtual instruction this fall.

As external stakeholders, volunteers, and mission-related supporters, we welcome your thoughts. Please feel free to contact us at info@ywcamc.org Your ideas and comments are important as we all move forward together.

Continuing the Fight for Equality

Thursday, July 2, 2020

As we move into July, we are continuing the fight for equality. We reflect on last month’s Pride celebrations and the achievements of the LGBTQ rights movement. More than half a century ago, the LGBTQ community, led by people of color, stood up against discrimination and police violence during the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. Let… Continue Reading Continuing the Fight for Equality

Monterey Food Distribution Program

Monterey Food Distribution Program has started as the pandemic continues to affect individuals and families throughout Monterey County, particularly those who are unable to access government relief and other forms of support. In California, 10% of the workforce is undocumented and is unable to access any unemployment insurance benefits.  We advocate for a weekly partial… Continue Reading Monterey Food Distribution Program

Disaster Relief for Undocumented Immigrants

Disaster Relief for Undocumented Immigrants has become increasingly important. As we continue to navigate the uncertainties caused by COVID-19, concerns about meeting basic needs continue to weigh on individuals and families throughout our state and county. These anxieties are the most profound for people who are marginalized and excluded from equitable access to resources. This… Continue Reading Disaster Relief for Undocumented Immigrants
