The Intersections of Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking

Categories: News

Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking have many similarities. The dynamics of human trafficking bear many similarities to the cycles of power and control that characterize domestic violence situations (e.g. intimidation, emotional abuse, isolation, coercion, and threats). YWCA MC staff recently had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the intersections between human trafficking and domestic violence through a virtual training hosted by Ruby’s Place, another DV/HT-focused agency based out of Castro Valley. Staff from Ruby’s Place shared their expertise on particular areas of importance, such as trauma-informed care, forms of immigration relief for labor trafficking victims, and addressing client needs during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the fields of DV and HT service provision are replete with nuances and rapidly evolving challenges, YWCA MC is committed to providing staff with ongoing professional opportunities such as this training.
