YWCA Monterey County was founded in 1971 as a career center, evolving to offer domestic violence prevention and intervention services in response to community needs. In 2010, the YWCA-MC opened its office in Salinas expanding programs to fill service gaps left by the closure in 2007 of the Women’s Crisis Center. YWCA–MC is currently the lead agency in Monterey County offering domestic violence and human trafficking services and continues to provide programs and multi-agency collaborations to prevent violence at the individual, relationship, community, and societal levels. RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Board Relations:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set strategic goals, establish policies, and ensure organizational growth, including human and financial resources, while positioning YWCA-MC as the leading provider of evidence-based domestic violence and human trafficking services in Monterey County.

  • Partner with the Board and staff to implement YWCA-MC’s mission and strengthen its position in the community through effective revenue models and communication strategies.

  • Lead the development and evaluation of programs, business development, and operations to ensure they align with YWCA-MC’s mission and values.

  • Guide the strategic planning process, track progress through regular reports, and communicate with the Board on key issues, challenges, and solutions.

  • Foster a positive and productive relationship between the Board, staff, and community to support growth, fundraising, and mission-driven advocacy.

Fund & Resource Development:

  • In collaboration with the Board, lead resource development efforts to grow contributed revenue, income, and reserves for long-term viability. This includes developing a fund development plan based on third-party sources, fee-for-service, annual and planned giving, major gifts programs, cultivation of private foundations, corporate sponsorships, and individual donors.

  • Oversee the annual grants calendar to maximize income, including research, budget development, applications, project tracking and fulfillment, evaluations, and reporting, all while meeting designated deadlines.

  • Creatively expand and develop new philanthropic strategies, prioritizing donor relations by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major individual, foundation, and corporate donors.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement the annual community fundraising event.

Community Relations & Marketing:

  • Serve as a confident, articulate, and persuasive advocate for YWCA-MC to increase its visibility with the community, private and public human service organizations, the media, and funders.

  • Actively represent the mission-driven interests of YWCA-MC through strong, compassionate, and relationship-driven collaborations. Advocate for mission-based public policy change at the local, state, and national levels.

  • Oversee the creation and implementation of communication tools, including marketing materials, newsletters, website content, brochures, and community outreach to inform the community about issues affecting the individuals the organization serves.

  • Work closely with key partners, such as the District Attorney’s office, government agencies, service providers, and local nonprofits, to further the mission.

Financial & Operations Management:

  • Ensure overall financial vitality and asset growth.

  • Ensure accurate operational and financial reporting policies and systems, including the development of an annual budget, tracking monthly expenditures, reconciling bank accounts, and providing timely and accurate financial reports to the Board.

  • Ensure targets are met and establish appropriate controls and accountability for all funds, physical assets, and properties. Conduct financial analysis, examine trends, and engage the Board in strategic discussions about financial responsibility and sustainability.

  • Ensure effective usage and maintenance of data, IT systems, and infrastructure that are critical to YWCA-MC’s success.

Staff and Volunteer Management:

  • Lead staff and volunteers in all aspects of managing the organization, including the development and execution of plans, policies, programs, activities, and grants.

  • Foster a positive work environment that inspires staff and volunteers, promotes professional growth, encourages accountability, competence, and teamwork across departments, and sets clear performance expectations and indicators for productivity and growth.

  • Establish necessary systems and procedures, delegating responsibility to staff as needed to ensure that staff are recruited, selected, employed, and terminated in accordance with organizational policies.

  • Collaborate with leadership across the Domestic Housing First Program, Clinical Department, and Operations to ensure smooth program functioning and that services meet or exceed established policies, standards, and contract agreements.

  • Facilitate and attend monthly meetings and/or trainings with the leadership team and all staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passion for YWCA-MC’s mission, demonstrated through a commitment to women, children, and family services, and previous work in human services or a related field.

  • Understanding of the societal forces affecting women, girls, and people of color, with a desire to fill a unique niche and drive the fight against racial injustice.

  • Experience in a nonprofit business environment, including leading human resources, programs, financial and operational functions.

  • In-depth knowledge of government entities such as HUD and experience with government funding, including contracts and grants, is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and identify organizational resource needs, with the ability to develop detailed operating plans to turn good ideas into well-executed activities.

  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with a Board of Directors made up of diverse individuals committed to the organization’s success.

  • Proven ability to inspire and motivate staff, create a dynamic work environment, and model and teach a philosophy that encourages integrity, growth, creativity, appropriate autonomy, accountability, and teamwork.

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including securing grants and contributions from foundations, corporations, individuals, and government agencies. Excellent communication skills to establish credibility with donors, business groups, government officials, and the media.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience in the social sciences required; Master’s degree in business, social work, or clinical psychology is a plus.

  • Minimum of 10 years of nonprofit management and leadership experience with revenue and expense responsibility.

  • Bi-lingual Spanish speaker required; multi-cultural inclusivity preferred.

  • Experience with trauma- and healing-informed approaches and racial equity practices.

  • Proven ability to manage a complex organizational budget.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to speak effectively to groups within the community and the organization.

  • Proficiency with common office software and applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Salesforce etc,.).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to travel to various worksites, regional and national YWCA meetings, seminars, conferences, and attend required training and meetings.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, access to a fully insured automobile, and proof of insurance.

  • Must possess a current First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Must be able to pass a background check and fingerprinting as required by law.

  • Must be available during emergencies, including weekends and non-business work hours.

TITLE: ASSOCIATE MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST OR ASSOCIATE SOCIAL WORKER

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time/Non-Exempt (20 hours/week)

SUPERVISOR: Clinical Supervisor

SALARY RANGE: $26.00 - 28.85 per hour

ROLE: To provide evidence-based therapeutic counseling services to clients of the YWCA Monterey County-King City and/or Salinas Office in a trauma-informed manner, in accordance with organizational, state and federal laws.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement therapy services utilizing best practices in core areas of trauma treatment, holistic strengths-based case management, danger and lethality assessment, high-risk case management, crisis intervention, healthy relationships, constructive coping, resiliency, and interdisciplinary teamwork to victim/witnesses of domestic violence, human trafficking and victims of crime.

  • Evaluate clients' emotional, behavioral, and psychological needs and identifying potential issues within family systems. Develop and implement treatment plans that help clients develop coping strategies, improve communication, and resolve conflicts.

  • Complete required documentation, including client records, service reports and administrative paperwork thoroughly and in a timely manner.

  • Maintain thorough and accurate files as required by agency policy and protect client confidentiality, following protocols to obtain signed informed consent for release of information;

  • Complete required monthly grant reports and documents requested by administration in a timely manner;

  • Ensure that therapy services are delivered in a manner that is consistent with YWCAMC policies, applicable laws, contracts, professional standards, and community expectations;

  • Provide co-facilitated group and individual therapy for survivors;

  • Must be registered with the California Board of Behavioral Science;

  • Provide direct individual, couple, and family therapy to address a range of mental health problems, including addiction, domestic violence, and marital issues in Shelter and outpatient offices of the YWCAMC;

  • Ensure that all clients are informed of the financial requirements of their therapy-including Victims of Crime applicants, CalWorks, CPS, private pay/sliding scale and grant funded therapy clients;

  • Attend staff meetings and community events, as requested.

  • Attend weekly supervision with clinical supervisor in accordance with BBS guidelines and requirements.

  • Performs other duties as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or Social Work.

  • Bilingual/Bicultural required(Spanish);

  • BBS registration required;

  • Minimum 1-year experience providing services in a non-profit setting or similar

  • Knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or human trafficking issues and therapeutic approaches with survivors.

  • Experience and competence with crisis intervention;

  • Understanding of parent education and demonstrated success in teaching adults;

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently as well as collaboratively with other agencies;

  • Excellent oral and written communication, listening skills, and a demonstrated ability to foster a supportive environment for clients;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and clear professional boundaries;

  • Ability to relate well to diverse individuals and lifestyles;

  • Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable personal transportation;

TITLE: Chief Executive Officer

STATUS: Full-time, Exempt

SUPERVISOR: YWCA Monterey County Board of Directors

SALARY: $120,000 - $150,000 plus health, dental, vision and life insurance benefits; eligible for retirement fund after 2 years of employment.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Executive Officer will work closely with the Board of Directors to bring to life a strategic plan that prevents and reduces domestic violence and human trafficking, while addressing racial inequities. This leader will develop and implement practical steps to achieve this vision, ensuring organizational sustainability. As the face of YWCA-MC, the Chief Executive Director will build and strengthen mission-driven collaborations with key stakeholders—including government agencies (city and county officials), community members, educators, donors, and corporate partners—fostering long-term, impactful relationships that amplify the organization's community presence and influence. In coordination with the leadership team, the Chief Executive Director will oversee all operational decisions regarding programs, facilities, and human resource management within the organization. This includes administering supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws while ensuring that the facility operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

Building on YWCA-MC’s unique history and programs, the Chief Executive Director will collaborate with the Board and staff to evaluate and explore innovative opportunities for diverse revenue sources, including government and foundation grants, third-party funding (e.g., Medi-Cal and HUD funding), fee-for-service, major individual donors, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, and events, all aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability and future growth.
