Youth Outreach: Prevention Education and Advocacy

YWCA MC ‘s youth outreach and prevention team partners with schools and other organizations throughout Monterey County. Through violence prevention, community development and education regarding the dynamics of healthy and abusive relationships our youth outreach program changes the minds of our youth. Our collaborations with school districts provide youth empowerment through mentorship, healthy relationship modeling, professional skill development, healthy self-image, alliance building, and self-confidence. Our Youth Education and Advocacy Program (YEA)  teaches safe and healthy relationship skills to high school students in Monterey County. Our facilitators teach a curriculum called Safe Dates by Hazeldon. Safe Dates focuses on attitudes and behaviors associated with teen dating violence. The YEA program facilitators also use Dating Matters prevention model distributed by the CDC. The Dating Matters model focuses on preventing teen dating violence by integrating multiple prevention components.
