JOB TITLE: OPPA Assistant
STATUS: Part-time
SUPERVISOR: Director of Clinical Services
SALARY: $20.00 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY: The OPPA Assistant is responsible for coordinating, setting up, and participating as a presenter in all outreach efforts in the community as well as field education on domestic violence and human trafficking prevention in school settings. Further, working on developing organizational relationships with community partners and opening spaces for the organization to connect and expand YWCA presence throughout Monterey County.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting informational presentations in different settings.
- Developing brochures, and other outreach materials.
- Organizing outreach events, presentations, and planning, to promote the services of the organization.
- Represents the YWCA MC in community events.
- Collecting and analyzing data from outreach groups and events to plan for outreach campaigns or increase YWCA MC reach in the region.
- Advertising for, screening, and recruiting volunteers/interns, providing them with training and support, tracking their performance, and keeping records of their activities.
- Maintains a list of partner organizations where the YWCA MC can perform outreach.
- Keep a list of community events to be attended by YWCA MC staff
- Prepares OPPA evidence-based curricula for all programs to promote healthy relationships and advocate for the reduction of violence in our community.
- Educates on causes and consequences of domestic violence teen dating violence and human trafficking.
- Supplies community with preventative skills and resources, along with social behavior techniques for healthy relationships.
- Serves as liaison to between community partners and the YWCA MC.
- Collects/maintains monthly demographic and program statistics.
- Produces accurate, timely reports and provides administrative support.
- Mentors YEA Program volunteers and interns.
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Plans with Supervisor evidence-based curricula promoting healthy relationships and advocating for the reduction of violence.
- Tracks & evaluates student awareness of healthy and abusive relationships.
- Educates on causes and consequences of teen dating violence and human trafficking.
- Supplies students with preventative skills and resources, along with social behavior techniques for healthy relationships.
- Serves as liaison to intergenerational partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Develops weekly lesson plans/agendas for youth groups.
- Provides social, emotional, and professional support to represented youth.
- Provisions basic needs when necessary.
- Represents the YWCAMC in community events.
- Collects/maintains monthly demographic and program statistics.
- Produces accurate, timely reports and provides administrative support.
- Coordinates and schedules guest speakers with other partners/organizations as needed
- Communicates effectively with supervisor regarding supplies and materials needed for weekly groups.
- Mentors YEA Program volunteers and interns.
- Responsible for developing online curriculum.
- Maintains documentation of group sessions through summaries, photos, and videos to share with the staff in charge of our media platforms to upload regularly.
- Assist with the coordination of a 40-hour DV Training.
- Performs other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of domestic violence prevention and intervention strategies preferred.
- 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training Certification required; agency will provide if the right candidate is not yet certified.
- 40-Hour Human Trafficking Certification required; agency will provide if the right candidate is not yet certified.
- Bachelor’s degree in human services, education, communications or related field preferred; Minimum of two years’ work experience with youth or social services preferred.
- Bilingual (Spanish) required.
- Successful experience in group facilitation, leadership development, peer counseling, cultural competency, public speaking, advocacy, and outreach.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Valid California’s driver’s license, proof of insurance (if driving a vehicle), and reliable transportation.
- Exceptional oral, written communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Programs, Office 365, and Google platforms.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- During working hours, employee may sit or stand for long periods.
- Lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor to waist level and carry for brief periods;

- Twist and reach while working at safe house location;

- Ability to travel within Monterey County up to 10% of time; Monday through Friday and occasionally on weekends as needed.
JOB TITLE: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ADVOCATE
STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
SUPERVISOR: Shelter Services Manager
SALARY: $22.00-$23.00/hour

ROLE: The Domestic Violence Advocate is responsible for working as part of a team providing services to survivors of domestic violence and performing related work as required including direct case management, responding to callers on the crisis hotline during business and after-hours; assisting with the intake for women and children seeking shelter services; distributing information about agency programs and services; providing referrals to community legal, medical and social services, and ensuring a safe environment within a 24-hour domestic violence shelter. At all times the postholder will maintain the integrity of the DV Shelter and the YWCA by adopting a professional and inclusive demeanor and acknowledge that DV is a human rights violation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide confidential medical, legal or general advocacy for individuals who are victims of domestic violence using a Trauma Informed Practice approach;
- Provide crisis intervention support to victims of domestic violence and Human Trafficking;
- Participate in the implementation of all shelter program procedures and protocol, including client engagement health and safety;
- Contribute to whole team decision making on approving client admission;
- Follow best practice in case management as determined by Shelter Services Manager;
- Participate in maintaining a rotating 24-hour coverage on the agency’s crisis line and shelter staffing rota to include overnight and weekends when needed;
- Answer forwarded crisis line call and take on-call responsibility if and when scheduled;
- Respond to emergencies at night as needed;
- Assist in advocating on behalf of clients in different tiers of YWCA Monterey County Housing programs;
- Ensure effective communications between vendors, donors, volunteers;
- Manage resources for DV Shelter residents including food, transportation, food bank, and in-kind donations;
- Assist with shelter operations, maintenance, repairs, overall facility cleanliness, pick up shelter-related donations, and purchase of food and supplies, as necessary;
- Assist with intakes and assessments with potential shelter residents when appropriate;
- Maintain clear and concise client files and records, and assist in gathering statistical information in compliance with funding requirements;
- Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and other agency meetings as required;
- Actively participate in ongoing learning opportunities in line with YWCA Monterey County’s Learning Environment;
- Maintain effective working relationships with other agency staff, volunteers, clients, and other community organizations;
- Work with whole team to ensure client safety planning is developed and implemented;
- Maintain confidentiality policies related to client information;
- Other duties related to the specific classification as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Minimum of a high school diploma and previous experience in social services or related area; candidates working towards associate’s/BA preferred;
- One year of relevant experience providing client services in a similar environment;
- Completion of 40-hour domestic violence training program and 40-hour Human Trafficking training (agency will provide on-job training);
- Knowledge of intimate partner violence and community resources;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing;
- Availability to work flexible hours, including some weekend and evening hours;
- Ability to work with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, religious, socio-economic backgrounds;
- Experience maintaining personal/professional boundaries;
- Valid California driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation;
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and volunteer management.
