We Support the LGBTQ+ Community in Monterey County

support LGBTQ+

Continuing the theme of relationship building, two YWCA-MC staff attended a Town Hall meeting last week to support the LGBTQ+ Community in Monterey County.

Themes that were discussed included gaps in service, appropriate services for different age groups and provision of shelters and housing that is gender appropriate. Many young people there highlighted the issues of discrimination and intimidation by family members they have faced during the Shelter in Place. The Gente program, from the Epicenter www.epicentermonterey.org spoke of their drop-in resource center for transition-age youth (ages 16-24). Information can be obtained from jason@epicentermonterey.org At a time where the YWCA has experienced an increase in numbers of people in same sex relationships calling for advice and support on Domestic Violence, this was a timely event for our staff.
