Women are Disproportionately Affected by Covid-19

Women are disproportionately affected by Covid-19. Let us not forget that:

  1. Many women will be trapped in their homes, self-isolating with an abusive partner.

  2. With schools and childcare centers now closed, it will be women who are taking on most reducing of the their unpaid hours or care giving work up paid work, turning the clock back on gender equality.

  3. Many women delivering the are essential lowest paid or on the frontline, services, in usually insecure work.  It’s women who are also more likely to care for older or disabled relatives and neighbors.

YWCA Monterey County works hard to support women as they are disproportionately affected by Covid-19.

Our Monterey Food Distribution Program to addresses the needs of some of our most vulnerable women during this time of heightened financial concerns. Food packages consist of staples such as rice, tortillas and canned goods. We were fortunate enough to be able to supplement our first round of food distribution with gift cards to WalMart which were generously donated by HealthNet LLC via the California Partnership to end Domestic violence.

The Food Distribution Program, aims to meet the food needs of vulnerable clients. We would like to give special thank you the Community Foundation and each person who has contributed philanthropically to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.  YWCA-MC and the Community Foundation work together to make Monterey County a better place to call home.

YWCA Monterey County relies completely on generosity. Every donation directly impacts Monterey County in a positive way.
